About the role

We are looking for a Track Maintenance Engineer to play a key leadership role within the Rail division.

The role of Track Maintenance Engineer is to provide maintenance engineering support to the RNM (Rail Network Maintenance) Asset Replacement and Response teams to ensure the effective management of Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) track assets including, turnout components, insulated glued joints and level crossings, in accordance with RTIO Standards. 

Reporting to the Specialist Track Engineer for Maintenance, you will:

  • Provide first response maintenance engineering support to minimise losses to track asset availability and performance
  • Perform inspections and audits of track infrastructure and assets to provide assurance to the business the asset is being managed accordance with the required standards or, controls have been implemented to manage the risk and operational impact
  • Analyse defects and operating performance of assets to identify trends, recommend and implement improvements to eliminate defects or improve degradation rates
  • Provide engineering input into the scope of works for asset replacement
  • Prioritise work to minimise risk and operational impact as far as reasonably practical
  • Provide engineering input into the planning, and scheduling of maintenance and replacement of track assets
  • Interface with other work steams to enable the execution of the work and/or facilitate an effective result
  • Ensure works are executed as per approved scope and relevant Standards, Specifications and Engineering Procedures
  • Conduct required quality assurance/ controls and/or verify compliance of completed work
  • Track asset records are kept current and accurately reflect the work executed
  • Identify and address non conformances
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing practices, recommend improvements and implement change. Improvements to include safety, quality, compliance, cost savings, and/or performance.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification or higher in either Mechanical or Civil engineering
  • Understanding of Railway Track Engineering concepts and principles
  • Manual C Class drivers’ licence

Additional skills/experience that will be considered favourable but not essential and can be developed on the job:

  • Experience in a rail environment
  • Experience in Maintenance of assets and managing defects
  • Understanding of Reliability concepts and principles
  • Experience in Work Management and use of work management systems such as SAP.

Were you will be working

You will be based out of the Rail Maintenance facilities at Tom Price or 7 Mile near Dampier, though your work locations will extend across our 1,700km rail network.
