About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

As a site engineer working in a role requiring flexibility across different locations and FIFO projects with the John Holland Rail Team, your primary responsibilities would include coordinating and managing construction activities, ensuring quality standards are met, communicating with clients and stakeholders, maintaining safety on site, documenting project progress, collaborating with the project team, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

  • Project planning and coordination: Assisting in the development of project plans, including determining project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Coordinating with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of projects.
  • Site supervision: Overseeing construction activities on-site, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations. Regularly inspecting work progress, identifying any issues or deviations, and taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Quality control: Monitoring the quality of workmanship and materials used in construction projects to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Conducting regular quality inspections and implementing quality control measures as required.
  • Engineering support: Providing technical expertise and support to the project team, including reviewing engineering designs, resolving technical issues, and offering guidance on construction methodologies and techniques.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including progress reports, work schedules, site diaries, and any other relevant records. Generating reports as required by project managers and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder management: Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders involved in the project. Addressing any concerns or issues raised by stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Health and safety: Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations on construction sites. Promoting and maintaining a safe working environment, conducting regular safety inspections, and addressing any safety-related concerns or incidents.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making: Identifying and resolving technical issues, challenges, and conflicts that may arise during the project. Making informed decisions and taking appropriate actions to ensure project objectives are met.

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and relevant technical expertise in civil construction or rail maintenance and minor projects.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating projects efficiently, meeting deadlines, and ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, contractors, clients, and stakeholders.
  • The ability to identify and resolve technical issues and challenges that may arise during the project execution.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in project plans, specifications, and documentation.
  • A commitment to safety protocols and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards on construction sites.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, including collaborating with other engineers, project managers, and contractors to achieve project objectives.
