We are interested in hearing from Project Engineers, ideally experienced in rail and various utilities, a strong background in programming, and a proven ability to meet tight deadlines. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, support the Senior Engineer in executing project scopes, and ensure that all work complies with project safety requirements. This role requires a team player who can adapt to changing project conditions and swiftly apply controls for change management. This role will require you working on a major infrastructure project with exposure to design, construction and Commissioning/Decommissioning. In this role you will provide onsite engineering services and technical support to ensure short term planning and programming of works is completed in conjunction with the schedule. This is a project role based in Canterbury, NSW.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Expertise: Provide in-depth technical knowledge related to rail systems and utilities, ensuring that all engineering solutions meet industry standards and project specifications.
  • Project Execution: Assist the Senior Engineer in executing the project scope, including planning, design, and implementation phases, ensuring that all milestones are achieved on time and within budget, and act as focal point for technical structural advice, providing the project with best practice methods.
  • Programming: Apply programming skills to automate processes, optimize workflows, and enhance project efficiency and ensure project is delivered to programme.
  • Change Management: Monitor project progress and swiftly implement change controls when necessary to adapt to evolving project requirements and conditions.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all project activities are conducted in accordance with safety regulations and standards, actively promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with project teams, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure effective communication and successful project outcomes.
  • Problem Solving: Identify potential issues and provide innovative solutions to keep the project on track.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, including technical reports, change orders, and progress updates.
  • Manage project activities and work scope
  • Liaise with Client, Subcontractors and all project stakeholders
  • Management of plant, labour and materials
  • Monitor monthly forecasts
  • Provide innovative problem solving and technical expertise
  • Demonstrate skills in reporting on project performance, compliance and defects and/or non-conformance
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

Skills & Experience required:

  • Tertiary qualifications Construction / Engineering Discipline
  • Demonstrated skills in programming, cost control, quality assurance, safety and supervision/people management.
  • Previous work in a Rail environment and technical knowledge of track works utilities, or related engineering fields.
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specification, standards and implications for project accountabilities
  • The ability to work quickly, effectively and positively in a demanding environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and able to pay attention to detail
  • The ability to work to deadlines and targets and the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on-site as required.
  • Willingness to adapt to changes in project scope and conditions.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including on-site at construction or utility locations.
