About the Role

The Carrapateena Team is accountable for delivering value at the Asset in the short, medium and long term, against the needs of all stakeholders.  With an immediate and core focus on delivering production outcomes, we have a secondary focus on leading the expansion of the mine by transitioning from a Sub Level Cave to a Block Cave – this will extend the Carrapateena mine life beyond 2039.  At Carrapateena, we create a safe to fail environment where leaders support, trust and empower individuals to test our own thinking and question the status quo.

Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)

Roster:  8/6 & 7/7

In this role you will:

The role of the Mechanical Technician Leading Hand (maintenance execution) is to be responsible for the safe, efficient and cost-effective repair and maintenance of fixed plant equipment, Key responsibilities include executing maintenance and shutdown plans for all fixed underground mechanical equipment on site.

Essentially, the role of the Mechanical Technician Leading Hand is to assist the supervisors with their day-to-day duties & fill in as supervisor when required.

This role is a leadership role and expectations are to lead by example in terms of safety, BHP values & systems.

Core attributes of this role include;

  • Providing effective, directive leadership for the day to day activities including shutdowns and adhere to deadlines.
  • Provide supervision of the maintenance team when required.
  • Control & endorse work permits as per companies’ procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees and contractors and drive continuous improvement.
  • Closely apply and follow-up all SAP Process to manage notifications, work orders preparation and closing.
  • Be able to make decisions based on knowledge and experience.
  • Assist planning team to optimise planned maintenance and minimise the impact of unplanned maintenance.
  • Ensure contractors working on site are compliant with site safety and equipment policies.
  • Assist in providing improvement for systems and processes to maximise equipment reliability.
  • Undertake shift work (roster basis) surface and underground.
  • Obtaining the required plant / equipment / site tickets to performing duties in both surface and underground.
  • Assist in developing maintenance procedures, policies, standard, work instructions, SOPs.
  • Assist in implementing maintenance strategies.
  • Being involved in resolving plant reliability issues.
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal safety commitment by modelling the desired behaviours.

About You

  • Mechanical trade background within a heavy industrial, mining resources environment.
  • Safety orientated with sound WH&S knowledge.
  • Proven experience assessing equipment failures.
  • Achieve results in limited time frames (decision maker)
  • Industrial processing within a continuous operation
  • Experience using CMMS, EAM, ERP solutions.
  • High level computer skills in Microsoft suite
  • Gathers and exchanges information and ideas.
  • Develop trust and confidence within a team.
  • Manages difficulties to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Mentors Apprentices to develop workgroup skillset.
  • Equipment failure analysis and ‘Root Cause Analysis
  • Exposure to equipment circuits and systems such as: Underground Crushing equipment, Conveying systems, Underground materials handling, Lubrication systems, Mine services (dewatering, air, ventilation…..etc)

To apply for this role, you require the following qualifications, accreditations, and licenses:

  • Manual Light vehicle licence, Mechanical Trade Certificate
  • Current National Police Check (NPC) (Or ability to obtain)

The following qualifications, accreditations, and licenses are desirable for this role:

  • Desirable – Working @ Heights, Confine Space, Rigging, Dogging, EWP, Heavy Rigid truck Licence (HR), Hydraulic experience.
